Donors Empower Parents to Succeed

At Casa de Esperanza, our commitment to breaking the cycle of child abuse and neglect goes beyond providing safe foster care for children at risk; it also includes empowering parents to lead their families toward lasting stability and success. This year, because of the generosity of our donors, a new Lunch & Learn series was added to our Aftercare Program, which is designed to stabilize, strengthen, and empower parents with vital life skills.

Our Lunch & Learn series not only provides opportunities for parents to gain practical tools and renewed self-assurance; it also offers time for our parents to learn from and bond with one another and get to know our staff better. Lunch, transportation, and babysitting are provided, and all parents are sent home with items from our pantry and gift cards.

These interactive sessions provide a supportive environment for parents to gain practical knowledge and build confidence. Thanks to facilitation by our partners at Frost Bank, at our first session parents gained a better understanding of how credit works, best practices for its use, common mistakes to avoid, and actionable steps to build a strong credit history. Knowing this information is crucial for financial stability and securing essential resources for their families. Our second session reviewed resume building, cover letters, career advancement, and goal seeking. It is important to let parents know that it is never too late to pursue their career aspirations. They were taught how to write compelling resumes that highlight their strengths and experience. When parents are equipped with these skills, they are better positioned to secure employment opportunities that can provide a stable home life for their children.

By fostering these opportunities for our Aftercare clients, we are helping parents feel more confident in their abilities to navigate life’s challenges. This empowerment is crucial to their journey in ensuring a stable and secure future for their family unit. With your support, we look forward to continuing these sessions and providing more essential resources to help the families in our Aftercare Program thrive.
