Family Support Services

  • Parent Case Management Services

Parenting a young child while facing life's challenges is tough.

The families participating in our programs face challenges that many people couldn’t imagine, like chronic unemployment, threat of eviction and homelessness, domestic violence, mental health challenges, substance abuse, food insecurity, or involvement in the criminal justice system.

When parents are faced with these challenges, they often feel like they have nowhere to turn. We work with them to stabilize their lives while we provide a stable home for their children in the meantime.

Our caseworkers take time to build a foundation of trust with parents so they can provide appropriate support, coaching, and guidance.

This is how we help parents break the cycle of abuse and neglect and strengthen their family.

Casa de Esperanza offers case management, post-permanency support, and other services that include:

  • Help navigating government benefits, securing critical documents, and finding affordable housing

  • Assist with life skills like financial literacy, budgeting, and life organization and planning.

  • Provide basic needs items like food and diapers, household needs, school supplies, and Christmas gifts.

  • Offer classes and coaching to learn essential parenting skills.

  • Assist with GED classes, education, and finding and applying for jobs.

  • Help signing up for substance abuse treatment, mental health support, or other needs.

    • Post-Permanency Support

We support children and parents even after foster care.

We’re still working with dozens of children and parents who have been here over the years through our post-permanency services. Our goal is always to reunify children with their parents or families. Even when a child leaves foster care, we can continue to support them and provide case management to make sure their parents have everything they need.

Sometimes, despite the efforts of our staff, parents, and other caregivers in a child’s life, reunification is not possible. Our post-permanency services ensure children have a safe, loving forever home even if they cannot reunify with family. This might mean adoption, permanent managing conservatorship, or permanent guardianship. Whatever the arrangement, our services are available to families as long as they need support.

    • Prevention and Intervention Programming

      Preventing child abuse and neglect.

As the Texas child welfare landscape continues to shift its focus to strengthening families and preventing involvement in the foster care system. Casa has incorporated prevention programming that supports families under stress before foster care becomes necessary, and intervention services for families who decline foster care placement but remain at risk for abuse and neglect. These services include intensive, crisis-focused case-management services and trauma-informed Positive Parenting classes and coaching.

    I love Casa De Esperanza!
When we had nowhere to go, they opened their doors to my children and provided resources that we are still receiving to this day.

It was hard being apart from my babies, but they made the time bearable. We went from homelessness to a fully furnished apartment and I’m currently completing my GED.

    Thank you!

    Common Questions

Who will my child be staying with?

Your child will be cared for by a foster family who has been recruited, trained, and licensed by Casa de Esperanza and has a heart for children. Our volunteer foster families are highly motivated to meet your child’s needs. They must clear all background checks and are thoroughly trained to care for children who have to spend some time away from their family.

Do I need to bring anything for my child at the time of placement?

You are not required to bring anything for your child. If you have any documents such as birth certificates, a social security card or number, a health insurance/Medicaid card or number, or immunization records for your children, that is helpful, but you can place your child without those documents. Casa de Esperanza will provide everything else your child may need, such as food, clothing, diapers, toys, etc.

How will you care for my child?

Your child’s health, safety, and happiness are our top priorities. We will make sure your child receives any needed medical or dental care, and doctor recommended evaluations for speech, physical or occupational therapies. Most of all, your child will receive love while in Casa’s care.

When do I get to see my child?

One-hour visits are offered every other week and are held in-person at our offices. You will schedule visits with your caseworker, who will also send you updates and photos of your child.

Who has custody of my child?

In a voluntary placement with Casa de Esperanza, you have custody of your child and retain all your parental rights.

What if CPS already has custody of my child?
Can they place my child with Casa de Esperanza?

If CPS has taken custody of your child, they can choose to place your child at Casa de Esperanza. Casa de Esperanza can take care of children in CPS custody. However, CPS will have temporary custody of your child and make the decisions regarding your child’s placement in foster care, your Plan of Service, and when your child can return home.

Am I placing my child for adoption?

No. If you place your child in voluntary foster care with Casa de Esperanza, you retain your full parental rights and custody.

    How can you help me?

We will work with you to get the services you need such as helping you access parenting classes, counseling, substance use treatment, physical or mental health treatment, housing or any other assistance you may need. This will become your Plan of Service.

Are you the same as CPS?

No, we are not DFPS or CPS, and we do not have legal custody of your child when you place a child voluntarily with us.

When do I get my child back?

If DFPS/CPS is involved, we will work with them regarding their recommendations for services. If there is no DFPS involvement, we will work with you to help you achieve the goals on your plan of service so you can stabilize your family. You and your Casa de Esperanza caseworker will work together to determine when the best time is for your child to return home with you.

What happens when my child returns home?

Services don’t stop when you have been reunited with your children. We can still provide assistance, support and referrals to your family after reunification. We follow most families initially for six months to ensure continued stability, but we remain available to you indefinitely when you need us.
